Angry help? anyone?

Hey,
I am trying to help my more than frustrated husband get his home studio going so he can record. I dont know how to use anything and he wont get online on a website like this to ask questions, so I am doing it now.
He has Tascam FW1082, he just bought Cubase LE software and said he has read through everything, has everything hooked up to where it should be. But when he opens cubase on his laptop it makes him run through this test and 99% of the time it turns to the blue screen of death, as he calls it, and restarts the computer. ONCE did it not do that, and brought up the cubase but he couldnt get any sound to come through anywhere. Can someone try to explain this to me or so I can pass it along to him so he doesnt through his equipment out the window..? please. I dont know what other info to give at this time, so just ask me. Thanks!
Becki

Well, first of all, if your husband refuses to get internet help for his recording troubles, he basically has an impossible road in front of him. There is nothing wrong with asking for help. In fact, that's exactly why I built this site.

There are a million reasons the Cubase could be bring up the "blue screen of death" (It's AMAZING how many people call it that).

The really easy explanations for the blue screen of death are in the soundcard itself.

For just a second, I'd forget Cubase and try to get the Tascam to work on it's own. In other words, I'd just play mp3 or a cd through Windows Media Player through the Tascam and make sure it is working before moving on to Cubase.

See if this gets you anywhere.

The other major potential issue is the computer itself. If the computer isn't SUPER clean, you could have major issues. In other words, if there are tons of unused programs, spybots, viruses, or if the computer runs slow you will have major issues with audio recording. Solving this is as simple as formatting the system, but not everyone is interested in that method.

Thanks Brandon, I will run this all by him tonight, and probably be back with more questions if you don't mind. =)
