Default Firepod vs FP-10 What's the deal?

Why would they discontinue a $400 piece and replace it with a seemingly identical $500 piece? I just went to order a Firepod (finally) just to find out the FP-10 is the current model now.

The only reason I ask is that I can still get a Firepod from other sources (which are about the same price as a FP-10 at cost).

What does the FP-10 have "over" the Firepod? I can get Presonus stuff at cost and the Firestudio Project is now about the same as the FP-10. At least the FSProject has LED's!

Thanks for any assistance with this.

The FP-10 is the firepod. Its the exact same thing. I think it comes with newer software and newer drivers, but essentially (especially on the recording end of it) its the SAME THING. I am not sure, but I bet that its a marketing gimmick. The Firepod used to be $500. Then they dropped the price then (presumably) because they weren't selling more units to make up for the price difference. So in order to bring the price back up, they called it something new, bundled the updated software, advertised it as the "NEW AND IMPROVED!!!" firepod and bamo! we're back to $500.

They were selling off old models cheap to get rid of them...

PreSonus

I'm sure they'll sell more units with a professional model name like FP10, rathre than the more consumer oriented Firepod.

silent, I'm getting a leftover Firepod for $350, screw the FP-10. lol

I found after a bit of digging that they are exactly the same piece of hardware. They should find a cheaper way of changing the name on the front of the box....

I'd imagine that the new name change is worth the money to most consumers.

Really? I different and more generic name is worth $100? I guess I'm not most consumers.

The firepod is on the way BTW...$344 plus shipping.

I don't think "most consumers" would come to a great site like this to find the best cost to performance ratio (ie the thing that does what they need for the lowest cost). I think most consumers go to some music store and say "I want to record my band." and the sales person says "Well, Presonus just released this brand new unit called the FP10. It has enough inputs for you to record a drumset." Then most consumers say ok, what else do I need, and the salesperson then proceeds to sell them 10 audix microphones whose casings are laser cut out of a solid piece of nickel.

Hi, I'm trying to find more discussions on the FP10 & Firepod but don't know how to find
them in this site, I used the "site Search" box but takes me to a strange page. . .
But anyway, re-taking this topic, what's the feedback or reviews on the FP10 is it
really the same (as the Firepod) why are Firepods in high demand on ebay right now
and new units (FP10's) are apparently not being paid attention to even at the same
price as the old Firepods? are the old ones better? what's the catch there? anybody there? Also what's the feedback on the new Firestudio TUBE is it really a good piece ?
