Default Fast Track Pro Routing issue

I'm running XP Pro SP2 and have been trying to get my Fast Track Pro working properly. It works fairly well but I can't seem to route the soundcard output to its inputs. For example, if I fire up Audacity, no matter how I configure it (Audacity) or the Fast Track Pro, I can't record any audio that's currently playing (like a song from itunes or the audio from a youtube video.)

This is problematic because I have a monome, and the main software, mlr, requires this ability for many of its functions.

There doesn't appear to be a software mixer (my onboard soundcard had a "what U hear" function.) And twiddling the dials does nothing.

Anyone?

A response from M-Audio states that "this product does not offer that functionality."

Can this be correct? Isn't "this functionality" something that sound cards are supposed to be able to do?

Can anyone else confirm this, that the Fast Track Pro cannot record its own output?

Audio interfaces are designed to take mics, synths, and things of that sort and pump them into a computer. What you are wanting to do shouldn't require a soundcard at all.

It appears that you are simply wanting to copy streaming audio (Youtube). There is software that does this without any need for an audio interface of any kind. I've never done it but I have friends who have.

This certain CAN be done. You need to plug the outputs of the Fast Track Pro into the inputs of the Fast Track Pro with cables. Be careful not to monitor the inputs or you'll have a feedback loop though.

This sort of thing isn't a feature that the typical home recording dude is going to have any use for. I've never used it. So, that's why it's not a built in function. In fact, there are huge reasons that you wouldn't want this in a recording situation.

The reason I want to be able to do it has nothing with youtube. I'm running MAX/MSP patches and a monome 256 and some of the patches make use of the audio that's streaming through the card. But I have confirmed that this won't work with this card and have had the Delta series recommended to me.

Thanks for the response, though.

Oh okay. Interesting.

Do you homework on the Delta series. It appears there are different control panels out there. I've owned 2 Delta 1010s for close to 7 years and their control panels were useless for routing and such. Just the other day, a dude on the forum posted a screenshot of what appeared to be a Delta 44 with a totally different and much more powerful control panel. With my Delta 1010 control panel, there is no way that I know of to route outputs to inputs, but I've got a feeling the other control panel would.

Okay, I just found out the answer to this one. A brand new driver came out 12/1/07. Make sure you download that one.
