| I bought a Fsat Track Pro to start building my home recording studio on my PC. I have this problem..... When I installed the drivers from the CD I would try to open protools and it would say "no m-audio hardware is on or is not responding" (or somthing like that). Also when I installed the drivers it would recognize it and everything but then would say "your usb has exceeded bandwidth". I brought my PC into the guy I bought the hardware from and we worked on getting it fixed for a few hours. And we did! He realized that the drivers that came with the unit were full of bugs (so to speak), and we needed to download the new ones. So we got the "v2" drivers from the site and all was well. But the bandwith thing still happened.... I went home and messed around with protools all night, then went to bed. I wake up this morning eagar to play around with it agian and WHAM! Same damn error message! (this is it word for word) "unable to locate M-Audio hardware. Make sure your hardware is connected and turned on." The device in device manager doesn't even have an exclaimation mark....and when I go to click on the icon for fast track pro in the system tray it dissapears (which is what it did when I downloaded the wrong drivers for "fast track ubs" instead of "fast track pro" and no I didn't download the wrong ones again, I double checked). ALL I WANT TO DO IS MAKE MUSIC! I have spent 1000 dollars I don't have total on this equipment (maxxed credit card) and I have spent days messing with it to work. PLEASE HELP!! - Epi |

What OS? Have you tried plugging it into a different USB port? (you may need to reinstall drivers if you do, but its worth a try). Is your USB port 1.1 or 2.0?

- Windows XP Pro - Yes I have tried all the USB ports - I have 2.0 (it comes with service pack 2) but from what I have been reading I think the Fast Track Pro is for 1.0, however this could be incorrect. - I have reinstalled the drivers many many times, and even did a reformatt. |

I had the same type of problem. Mine was caused by a spyware blocker (Ad Watch/Ad Aware) that wouldn't let the driver install properly. Uninstall the driver and then disable ALL anti virus and spyware programs. Then reinstall. You should have a red and white icon in your system tray that you can open the M-Audio Control Panel and you can verify that the Fast Track is connected.
