Default External Pres

Hi,

Just wondering, say if you have a 4 input interface. You buy a 2 channel external preamp, and decide to hook that up to the interface via s/pdif. Does this mean that you can only use 2 inputs in total, or can you use 2 inputs from the external preamp and another 2 from the interface simultaneously?

Thanks,

Paul

You can use whichever channels you like. Just assign each to a track in the recording software.

Which interface are we talking about, exactly?

It will probably be a m-audio fast track ultra.

I don't know how good the quality is, but considering it's pro tools compatible, and has 4 pres, it would seem a good deal, especially considering in the long run i will probably improve the converters and pres with outboard gear.

Thanks

Yes.
It has six analog inputs and outputs PLUS the S/PDIF I/O. That's why they say "simultaneous 8 x 8 24-bit/96kHz audio". It looks like a really nice device.
