I should know this by now being on these forums..but I dont.. Is this equipment ..."Behringer MX3282A). Our new console in conjunction with Cool Edit provides us with an entirely digital, fully automated 128 track mixdown" "we use something very similar to Pro Tools called Cool Edit Pro (also known as Adobe Audition" as good as using something like protools and mbox2..ie is it as controllable. I asked about other equipment on here once and was told that certain functions could not be done as well as with protools type equipment..so wanted to check on this.. Would this be compatible with .wav files and stuff like that? Thanks all! |

I disagree for too many reasons to list. That stuff can be fine for home.... wav files and all. You can certainly realize a pretty good song on that setup but it is much better suited for radio production than music. good luck! Quote:

After switching from Sonic Foundry Vegas 3.0c to Cubase SX3, I am certainly aware of the fact that higher end recording software can make various tasks easier and even improve workflow, but I don't think the actual audio quality as changed a bit. Most people who are not experienced audio engineers are concerned that a cheaper audio program will have less fidelity and sound quality than another program. As stated above, I haven't noticed a difference at all (in terms of sound quality) between "cheap stuff" and high end software. The plugins may be an exception. I was thinking today about how many albums that I love were done in Pro Tools. Maybe it's just my age, but very very few records that have made an impact on me (or that I eve LIKE for that matter) were done on Pro Tools. Putting sound quality aside, almost all my favorite recordings were done some tape based medium. Of course, the features of analog tape are almost zero. You get to record and playback. So, the way I see it, if a program and record and playback with any degree of fidelity, it's capable of recording a monster hit. It all goes back to the people using it. Quote:

it's not so much the program but the behringer... and I'm not bashing it because of the name... also this stuff belongs to someone who owns a "studio"... what do you think his skills are like? But have you ever really worked in CEP/AA? Have you ever spent quality time on a behringer board? and if you did...and heard what went on, would you be touting that and CEP/AA as they are in the excerpt? |

Good points. So you are basically suggesting that based on this guy's gear (and moreso, the fact that he is proud of this gear) that he probably won't be cranking out any platinum records anytime soon? Brandon |

the way i see it.... good music has been made on Behringer gear.... but so also has BAD music been made in tape and on Pro Tools as of now the little red button has not been hit in weeks, half of that is due to me working full time again, also some due in part to my lack of talent : ![]() this is to say though that i have gear that "works" sure it is not SSL or Neve but... hey Mac and PreSonus... much worse can be used.

I think we all agree that you can make great recordings with cheap gear. The issue here is why would would a person brag about the cheap gear? Brandon |

the same reason you would brag if you had an SSL board and RCA vintage mics ;D if that is what you have that is what you know to talk about.
