Default Does Cubase LE suck? + is plug-in compensation an issue?

This is an offshoot from another thread.

Does Cubase LE suck? + is plug-in latency an issue?

    It's what I use.

    - What am I missing out on elsewhere that I don't realize I'm missing?

    - How does it suck on it's own?

    - I thought it corrected for plug-in latency...but a cubase fact sheet seems to have corrected me. What is truth, how much of a problem will it create?

    Thanks for any input,

    Phil

If plugin latency is a problem, chances are its time to change your sound card. What is your sound card?

Some (actually most consumer...) sound cards can't handle really low latency. The kind you need to monitor in real time. You may be able to improve it significantly by using the ASIO4ALL driver. http://www.asio4all.com/

If you have a good sound card/capture device, you should get low latency monitoring, and shouldn't need the ASIO4ALL driver.

I've never used Cubase LE, but I'd imagine it uses the same engine as all the other cubases... what's the point of writing a different one? It obviously has limitations that Steinberg want you to pay more for for the big boys, but it wouldn't make sense for them to design a different engine. Stranger things have happened though I guess.

I think it was just a general question.. as I understand it, the latencycomp. is only necessary if you work with outboard or with a UAD-1 or something..

also you have some bareers on the FX channels.. look at this sheet:

I'm not a big Cubase fan personally, I think it's a huge resource hog compared to some other programs out there. It does have a descent feature set though, and I've found it quite easy to learn. I know with Cubase LE you're limited to two effects per channel though, which can be a hassle at times.

Quick cleanup on some things above -

    1) Plug-in COMPENSATION, not plug-in latency. (my bad). Wanted to know what problems I may be in for.

    2) It's 2 inserts, 4 sends. I have a plugin I haven't used (but once), probably called Chainer, that creates chained effects within each plugin.

    3) Resource hog - it probably is!

    4) Why do you love your recording software? (may give me or others a reason to switch).

i had LE with my firepod, i used it for a short time.... it just was low on features and also i was having CPU problems with it that i was not digging, also for some reason found that i could record a crystal clean track and play it back and it would start to click.. and then pop and then drag! all while i was not using ANY VST plugins i was watching it eat my audio right in front of me! so i found that Garage Band worked better than LE... now i use Tracktion.

very powerful program not CPU hungry.

    easy on the cost.

comes with like $500 worth of free VST plugs

and its a clean format to use with out any of the clutterthat you see in most programs.
