Just use an RCA cable like on your DVD player. It's the same thing.

I'd take a serious look at who is the master clock and who is the slave.

Do you mean the wordclock? The saffire doesn't have a wordclock input, so using internal only.

A single spdif cable only carries info one way right? So not seeing input cannot be a problem on an output.. I'm just wondering about this, as have no info on that.

assuming you don't have a dead unit.

I'm suspecting that now. I had a look inside but don't see any obvious faults. Although the tubes are quite far away from the digital board though.
