Hey RecordingReview folks,
My name is Jason. I'm in a band called The Otto Modest. Brandon (our blessed leader )has known the other guys in the band for a quite while, but my time in the band has been limited to the last four years or so.Our last album was recorded in my basement with a Yamaha 8CH minidisc recording station (don't know the modem # off the top of my head) and the passed all the tracks to my PC through a SoundBlaster Card, and mixed everything down with Adobe Audition 2.0. Granted, this was three years ago now, and I know a lot more, but it worked fairly well, and I think the album turned out as good as to be expected. Now I've recently purchased the Alesis IO26 (with 8 CH analog inputs and phantom on all channels), and expect to start recording on our next album. I hope to use Audition 3.0 for the mixing, but the Alesis comes with Cubase LE. I'm going to be doing a lot of research (and experiementing) with mic placement, and mastering. I expect this site will be a huge part of the research for this, and will be happy to read about everyone else's trials and tribulations in PC recording. My first task will be setting up the Alesis with Audition and Cubase, to see which interface I like more. If anyone wants to add thier two cents on that, feel free. Thanks for reading my first post. -Jason |

I'm a Cubase guy. I've used Cubase SX3 for a while now and I don't expect to change anytime soon...maybe not at all. I've been extremely happy with it. With that said, Audition is good too. In the end, the software isn't THAT important if you recording with microphones. When recording with microphones recording software has done little more than replace tape and razor blades. I doubt if anyone was debating razorblades on forums in the 70s and 80s. ![]() With this software stuff, nothing is quick and easy. It's not like you can really try a piece of software for an hour and then try another one for an hour and have any idea which one is really best for you. They all have their own way of doing things. Just go with something that you know CAN do what you need to do and blast through the learning curve the best you can. Brandon
