Default cubase sx3 problems/M-Audio Delta44 card

Hi - I have been using Cubase SX3 for a while and just recently had a problem with some apparent corruption involving DirectX files and plugins. After completing a new installation of cubase everything works fine...except that all monitoring out of cubase now only sends the right channel to the soundcard. All other playback programs from the computer work properly and play back in full stereo. But cubase is only outputting right channel. Within cubase the monitoring meters show that stereo playback is actually there. And exporting an audio mix from a project gives a full stereo track which plays fine in any other player. But if i import that file back into cubase and play it all i get is one side of the stereo...
Anyone have a clue? Apart from the balance controls on the mixer, i can't see anywhere that would mute one side of the stereo.
thanks
Joe

ohhhhhhh - serious thanks!

I'm a mediocre musican and a terrible amateur at recording and I'll never understand how those sends altered from one day to the next, but after 10 yrs of using Windows i believe i should be used to it now. Hopefully back on track now!
