Default Cubase problem

Hi everybody, I was just wondering if anyone could help me out with a problem i have on cubase sx.

I was trying to import an audio file into cubase that i had recorded, however the file sounded terrible and i have realised that its an octave(or somethin) lower than it should be. It plays fine in Windows media player though.

I then tried to open a Cubase project from another computer which had the file on it and none of it played at all. A message also came up sayin the sample rate had changed.

Any help would be great.

Sounds like the file you're trying to bring in must be recorded at a low sample rate. Thing to do is to find out what sample rate it is at, and get it converted to whatever cubase is using on your system.

Which version of Cubase SX are you using? I'm using SX3, but have never dealt with the other SX versions.

This definitely sounds like a sample rate issue.

The fact that file plays properly in Media Player suggests that it is a 16 bit file since Windows Media Player can't handle 24 bit. Unfortunately, it doesn't tell us much about the sample rate.

Do you know what the sample rate of the file is?

What audio interface are you recording with? I once had a problem where my converters were set to record at a sample rate that was different from the software. The wrong "header" was put on all the audio files. This "header" is the label the recording software gives .wav file. It tells the program using the file all the goodies it needs to know (sample rate, bit depth, etc).

You can change headers, but first you need to know more about your specifice problem.

What happens if you rip an audio file from a cd and play it with Cubase?

Yeah mine is SX3 as well. I just went to 'resample' and it says the file rate is 48000.00. ???

Well, usually files that I've ripped from Cd's work fine but I was using a different recorder so I don't know if that makes any difference.

If you import the audio into a new project, does it ask you if you want to resample?

Make sure you've got this right. Burn a cd and listen on another stereo.

I had a huge sample rate problem about a year ago that cost me a lot of trouble because I thought I had the problem solved just to burn a cd and hear it in slow motion.
