Default Cubase LE... Only 2 inserts?

Damn, only 2 inserts in Cubase LE? Does this mean you can only use two plugins for inserts?

I find this to be amazingly unusable for SOME hardcore mixing. How do you get around that? Vegas has no limit and it's not too uncommon to have 5 or more plugins on a track if I'm getting a little wild.

Cubase LE isn't free for no good reason and you're unlikely to use it for hardcore mixing. You get 5 inserts per channel on SL and 8 on SX. Check out the feature comparison at http://www.steinberg.net/552_1.html.

yep - limiting.

let's see...that's one de-esser, one compresser on a vocal....o.kaaayyyy....

Hey Brandon, care to comment on some typical insert setups you use, or ways you use more than two? A few comments from your experience would be really helpful! Are you chaining compressors?

Thx in advance,

Phil

PS i have been really jonesing for an upgrade for a while...yah!

It really depends. On many vocals, a compressor is all that is needed. But this depends on the song too. I may put the telephone effect on the verses or something. Well, that's an EQ, a distortion plugin, probably still a compressor (maybe), and maybe a de-esser. I could probably do the same thing with an Aux, but it's just easier to make a new track for me.

Most of the time that I need a lot of inserts comes when I'm going for very wild, weird stuff that I need to automate levels on a lot. Again, I can easily do this with Auxs, but it's not time efficient (in Vegas anyway) when I'm automating my levels. Inserts are the way to go in this situation.

Seriously, it's really not THAT big of deal that you only have 2 inserts. You could work around pretty easily. It just suprises me that the limit is there. It just seams sort of silly to me because there are certainly times when I have to use more than that.
