Default Cubase 4 & Cubase Studio 4?

Hello,

I just want to ask if anyone has tried the new cubase 4 or the studio 4....
I'm thinking to go for it and buy it but I cannot afford the complete
edition (around 750 Euros!!! in Europe) and I haven't heard about its
performance and stability yet. What about the compatibility with older
programs and VSTi's??

To be honest I was expecting to buy the SX3 in much lower price, after the
new one was released, but they've managed to discontinue it instead;
they kept though the SE edition which sucks.

So, what do you think about the 4 Studio edition compared to SX3??
Anyone having experience on the new editions??

Waiting your thoughts...

Thanx,
Darco

Since Steinberg invented the VST format, I'm pretty sure there won't be any compatibilities with that. What other programs do you need to be compatible with? I'd figure all plugins would work fine with it (except for DX, which they have scrapped all together).

If you have an older version of Cubase, you can upgrade at a discount. SX3 cost me $400.

Hi Brandon,

I only own the LE version which I bought together with my Focusrite Saffire
soundcard, so it's an OEM version. Do you think I can upgrade from this
version??

So you think it's better to upgrade to SX3 not to Cubase 4, right??

As for the compatibility, you are right; I forgot that Steinberg invented VST's
so I suppose I won't have a problem. But what about VST3 that is introduced
in Cubase 4? what is all about??

Thanx,
Darco

I'm very confident that you can upgrade from this version without a problem.

What is wrong with Cubase SE3? What do you not like about it? What is limiting? If budget is an issue, than you really need to decide if the features of upgrading are worth it to you. I have no idea of your needs, mixing style, etc.

I've not kept up with it the way I probably should have. I read all about it 6 months ago and none of it seamed like it would improve the music I was making so I put it in the "forget about it" folder in my brain.

If I was starting from scratch and didn't have any DX plugins, I'd probably go with Cubase 4. However, I'm VERY happy with Cubase SX3. Don't overthink this. If you don't have DX plugins already and have decided that you want the real deal, big boy Cubase, just get Cubase 4. You have way too many bigger problems to deal with this whole recording thing.

Spend your time making music. Don't waste too much time reading Consumer Reports.
