HI folks, Moving up to digital but have one concern. Are there any DAW packages that do NOT require some sort of online justification before you can use it? OUr PC will be in the lab/"studio" with no phone access to it. We could call for approval on a cell but cannot attach the pc to the internet. We also plan to rip out all security software and otehr stuff that would slow down the pc and cause ticks pops etc on the recordings. That means that it would be highly unsafe to connect to the internet. So ... What packages are least PITA to use wrt security issues blockign fair use of what we bought? Looking at Sonar and Cubase but would consider PT or even others if there are no dongles or internet stuff that would slow it down or make it a real PITA to use. What would fit our circumstances best? Also looking at finale, bandinabox, some orchestra tbd, and elevation. Would there be any problems with that mix ?? thanks !! |

In my studio my computer is not connected to the net. I installed everything thinking that major sites providing drivers etc. will not infect my computer. I took it to the studio and there is no problem. Downloading from reputable sites isn't an issue. But I run Mac

Thanks. Simply Downloading is not an issue. We have another pc locked down tighter than a drum with every security program we can shove into it for downloading. We can download there, run our virus checks, and then move the data to the "studio" pc using a dvd or memory stick. Our concern is copy protection schemes that want to keep phoning home over the net; as well as having to get some sort of approval to use the software in the first place -- again using the internet; and finally with any dongles. dongles break, they get lost, some software decides to check them in the middle of a session so you get noise instead of notes. We want to be able to set up a fast and reliable pc for recording without any security software slowing it down and also without any copy protection getting in the way of our using it. We are happy to buy the software we need. But we dont want to have to fight it to make it work. So anybody with any recommendations for software to use? How about any software that is a pure PITA to avoid?? Thanks |

Once I installed sonar8 and registered it with cakewalk I've never had to go online since then to use it..And that pc is totally striped down also..just what I need to run sonar. Just click on the icon on the desk top and it loads everytime no questions asked..
