Hi there, I bought the Tascam 1082 Audio/Midi Interface and Control Surface http://www.musiciansfriend.com/produ...ace?sku=706931 and I was just getting ready to return it but wanted to get some opinions before I do. I'm running Cubase Stuidio 4, M-Audio Firewire 410, M-Audio Prokeys 88. I'm writing and recording just for myself and this is all new to me so I'm just learning. I still want addidional software or hardward for effects exspecially vocals. After I bought the Tascam 1082 Control Surface it seemed like a lot to take on with all the other new stuff I'm learning. I realized I have to figure out how to make it work for me either as a stand alone mixer, or as a interface which meant not using the firewire 410 anymore, or as a controler for the cubase software or all three. I started to feel overloaded and realized that my brain started to think that maybe I went beyond my ability to deal with more than it could handle at one time right now. Quesion is; since I already have the Tascam 1082, is there an advantage to having this piece of equipment that makes it worth keeping the Tascam 1082 surface control and taking the time to learn how to use it rather than return it and get my money back? sherok Last edited by sherok; 08-08-2007 at 06:41 AM. |

No doubt, it's best to keep the learning curve under control the best you can. I only buy one piece of gear at a time (when possible) to make sure I fully understand it before moving on. Did you pay $600 for yours? If you did, this is a very good price for a control surface and 8 in audio interface with preamps. Personally, I'm not convinced that control surface is going to make a mindblowing improvement in the music I make, but some feel they are important. If you think you want a control surface, the Tascam 1082 is a great choice. However, if you are not sure if you even need a control surface, maybe it's best to keep things simple. Maybe this article will help some: Is A Control Surface Right For Me? Brandon |
