Default Connecting Compressor with Firestudio???

I plan on getting a compressor/limiter soon and I was wondering how I would connect it with two tube preamps and a Firestudio tube. Would it work to put an output from the preamps into the compressor, and then back out of the compressor into the Firestudio? Is there a better way? Thanks!

That's the one flaw of the integrated preamps. Adding external compressors is not usually part of the design. You really need to add external preamps to make it work right.

While I have a Firestudio, I'm not really sure if they have some kind of loop mechanism. If they do I'm not aware of it. I guess you could rig up some kind of routing thing with the DSP, but that could get a little screwy. You'd waste an input in the process.

Yeah, only a handful of the integrated preamps have inserts, back panel real estate is valuable in a 1u model.

You could do some funky routing, but you're missing the benefit of compressing the signal before it reaches the ad converter.

I DO have 2 external preamps that I bought yesterday and right now i have them going into line in on the back of the firestudio... (sorry I should have clarified that I meant external and not the ones build in).. so would it work if I added a compressor and pugged my preamps into the line in on the compressor, and then plugged the line out on the compressor to the line in on the firestudio?
Sorry, I know its a basic question but I've never used a hardware compressor before and just wanna make sure thats how u do it!
