Default Can u firewire daisy chain FW410 to FireStudio?

Can I daisy chain the FW410 to the Firestudio via firewire or not? I've got the FW410 plugged into the Firestudio and the connection is bus powering my FW410 but I'm not getting any signal through to the FireStudio's interface on my MAC Pro.

If that's an impossibility, then can I just use the lightpipe/optic cable conections to feed the sound from the FW410 through the FireStudio and then to my MAC?

Somebody toss me an intelligent bone here please.

Many Thanks!

It's not so much an issue of "daisy chaining" them. This implies that you would be plugging one audio interface into another.

You should be able to plug each one into a separate Firewire hole. You'll need to install drivers for both, but they SHOULD work together in tandem. There are sometimes issues with using two different audio interfaces at the same time. I certainly always recommend a person using indentical audio interfaces when possible.

Actually got it to work.

Plugged FW410 firewire cable into Firestudio and then plugged RCA plugs into S/PIDF in & out. Firewire just supplies the power to FW410. Signal is sent though S/PIDF. Have to fu@k with crappy M-Audio's schmidty and buggy software counsel to get it to function correctly (M-Audio software is not very compliant with MAC...which sucks hairy balls...not that I've ever done that...but you understand my distaste with M-crappola-Audio schmidt...... =8). But it's working!

All happy in Audio Land!

Cheers Bert's & Betties!

Hey! What's the story with Toslink Digital S/PDIF versus RCA S/PIDF? Is Toslink inferior? Which is better? Or does one work better for somethings then the other and vice versa? What gives?

I doubt if there is really that much difference. I'm sure some crazed maniac will tell you that X is better than Y, but these people usually can't pass a placebo test either.

You may want to look into this one further, though, because I know little about it. My Mytek converters use RCA so that works for me.

Default Optical Toslink S/PDIF vs. RCA S/PDIF

Can't Optical Be used to route multiple signals, where RCA can only be one signal?

Typcally you'll find the optical used in ADAT Lightpipe which can send 8 individual signals. However, if your converter is simple a 2 channel box, you'll still only have two channels.
