Default Can't monitor usb mic(blue icicle).

Hi there, I am brand new here, and I've come because my searches for a solution, including on this site, have not yielded any results. I recently acquired the Blue Icicle XLR to USB mic converter. I am a total bare bones recording artist and was previously just plugging a mic right into the sound card. The problem I am having is that I cannot monitor it while I am using it. It appears to be functioning properly, and I can record with it just fine, using various pieces of software, just can't hear it while I'm using it. I primarily use Audacity, which is configured correctly for this as far as I can tell.

I figure it has something to do with my soundcard, which is a nVidia nForce which is 5-6 years out of date by now. Any help would be appreciated!

After you record the signal can you hear it on playback?

In Cubase you have to press a monitor button to hear what's going on while it's going down. I'm not sure about Audacity.

You didn't mention if you could monitor while recording when plugging directly into the soundcard so I'm not sure if your soundcard is duplex. It should be, but it may have a high latency.

Hi Brandon, thanks for the reply. I got it to work by doing this, in case someone else has a similar problem, it is a nonsensical solution, but nevertheless:

edit: This is in audacity.

This may just be a quirk of my computer. Go to edit-preferences and check "software playthrough" then go to your input controls at the top and click on "Start monitoring". Now it works. Then go back and uncheck "software playthrough". Still works. I haven't tested the latency as far as recording with other tracks, but that could be a problem. If you click on "start monitoring" first, it won't work. Makes a ton of sense right?
