Dude, definitely appreciate you taking the time to help me out. Your right, my Tascam can only record 2 tracks at once.? So like, my plan when i got the mixer was to run like - Rythm Guitar - Bass - Drums all simultaneosuly thru the mixer, then all that into one track on my Tascam. So like in order to do that, what would i run all the cables into. Like which inputs on the mixer? ? I'm just gonna run the guitar thru my Marshall head. For the bass, we'll just plug that direclty in to the mixer, then for the drums i have 4 mics. So with all that, do you know how i can start? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?- Pat

I'm assuming that your mixer has a pair of stereo main outs. Knowing really nothing about your particular set up I assume you can run 1/4 cables from the stereo main outs on (probably the back of) your mixer to the two inputs on the tascam. I don't think it's any more complicated than that. Not sure though. Ben

Unless you just HAVE to record the whole band at the same time, I'd mega recommend that you have the entire band play together, but only track the drums. Then I'd recommend you add everything afterwards. Most bands just don't play tight enough to do it live. Even if they do, your mixing options are so limited with this method that it's going to be tough to make anything decent. The type of recording you describe may have been acceptable 10 or so years ago, but now it generally won't give you the quality you are looking for. Don't get me wrong, there are have been mega tunes recorded in this fashion (usually oldies and Motown) but it's not the typical modern setup. It depends on your needs really. If you have to track the entire band, you are just gonna have to come out the main stereo outputs of your board and mix it all beforehand. With this method, all you can really do is "master" it because mixing is already done. Let me know more about your project. Brandon |

Thanks for taking the time Brandon. Well, we were originall going to record the whole band together, but now I realize that you've made a good point. So, now instead, we'll just play together and only track the drums and go back and record the other stuff after. We'll be recording thsi weekend, so I'll definitely let you know how it goes and I'll post some audio clips once we're finished. Once again, really appreciate the help. Pat

Alright, so we figured out how to line it all up and we got a pretty nice setup going right now, so I should definitely have some music up in the next few weeks for you to hear how it went. Pat
