This post slipped through the cracks on me.

Why would you think the Firepod is better? I'd expect the two to sound exactly the same. The only difference would be in the quantity of inputs and other features that you may or may not need.
This is why I created the Home Recording Soundcard Wizard (see signature). Soundcard are pretty much equal. In fact, you probably wouldn't hear much of a difference (if at all) between a $200 audio interface and a $9,000 interface.

How does firewire matter, etc. (I think someone said I "NEED" firewire for optimum effectiveness of "condenser" mic AND the "cm" is optimum for studio vocal, right?)

Hmmm. Firewire matters when you need a portable audio interface than can work with a laptop. Firewire matters when you exceed the bandwidth of USB 1.1. That's about it. Firewire also has a lower latency than USB 1.1 if that's an issue for you.
If a person thinks that a condenser microphone sounds better through Firewire than USB 1.1, USB 2.0, or PCI he does not know what he is talking about. The computer connection has no appreciable impact on the fidelity of the recording. Now there are other factors in an audio interface, however. Preamps and converters can make a slight difference, but not to a person who hasn't put 10,000 hours in the studio yet.
