Default The biggest effect on my mixes

I was writing an article recently and I got to thinking about the one tactic that improve my mixes the most.?

Without a doubt, it was learning to use volume automation.... on everything!!!!

I've never used volume auomation successfully. I know how to literally draw it with the pencil tool, but I've never really gotten the hang out of it. Any tips on this one, Brandon?

I don't know how you could not use some type volume manipulation with today's technology. Isn't this obvious?

OK, maybe I'm being a little harsh. I suppose if you're just starting out this might not seem obvious. Even if you don't know how to automate it on the fly in your mixing software, you can do it manually on individual tracks in your favorite audio editing software (much more tedious though).

The article would be sweet with some audio samples to illustrate your various points.

Great idea. I'm not sure if I have any guitar solo over heavy rythm tracks type of projects going right now, but I use volume automation on every mix, so that shouldn't be a big deal. I'll add that to my to do list.

Great article dude very helpful.

If you have time, I would consider doing an article on Antares Auto-Tune sometime. SO many people think it's like this magical tool that is going to change their voice from shit to gold, but (at least in my case) I've found that it's not really all that life-saving. Some .wavs of that would be cool too...just a thought

The autotune article could be a fun on as well. It's another one of those myths that simply needs to be shot down. I suck at using autotune and have spent hour after hour using the damn plugin. That'll be a fun article. I'll make sure to include soundfiles for that one too.

If you have any more articles, you would like to see, send them my way.
