Default advice on hooking up analogue mic pre through a/d

Hello,

I have got a jlm baby animal analogue 2 channel mic pre and I have to run it through my behringer ada8000 converters to my Rme soundcard. I am guessing the best way to hook this up is balanced xlr out of the outputs of the jlm pre into the line in on the front of the ada8000 (so it may bypass the behringer mic pre's).

Would I be best to go balanced xlr out into balanced trs line in or to unbalanced ts line in on the ada8000 for best conversion and sound quality?
I will mainly be using this pre for guitars.

Thanks

Yes. preamp line out to ada800 line in would be the correct way to connect the two units.

If you have balanced cables (xlr->trs) I would use them, but no real audible difference would be heard if you used unbalanced.

always best to go bal-bal if you can

you could go bal- unbal with some risk of noise
but if you dont hear any then it will work fine that way

i thought the behringer would accept eitehr way in on a channel input

I have to run it through the ada8000 as I have to connect it to my Rme hammerfall soundcard which is either adat or spidif, the jlm mic pre doesn't have digital outputs, just a xlr input and xlr output.
