Default Adding an Effect

Does anyone know how i can add a vst or any effect for that matter on one part of an Audio and not the whoel thing - I usually click on the E for effect and it adds it to the whole track? I'm just looking to select a part of it to add the effect to.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Tom

You are looking for automation. Check your manual. What recording software are you using?

Oh yeah that probably would help you.. sorry... I use Cubase .. I usually just6 add the effect to the whole thing and duplicate the track and use the effect for that one part then have to erase that part on the original track so it lines up. It just seems really complicated that way. If there was a way to add like reverb or delay to one part of the audio it would be great. I looked in the manual but couldt find it i will look again though.

Thanks!

I do that way sometimes.

Yeah, look up automation in the manual. It's not hard to simply turn that effect on or off by drawing a few lines.

Yup, this is automation.

It's possible that Cubase calls it something else.

Here's an article that may help.

Cubase calls it automation. I will be doing the same thing soon. I am going to blast a keyboard part but only for the note at the very end of the song, sort of like an LFO effect. I could also just do it with the LFO during the actual performance.

Another way, now that I have so many delicious tracks to use, is to just put the one note on it's own track with the full bore effect on and that is what I'll fade the master on. That would be the fastest easiest way. I have automation semi figured out in Cubase for fader stuff, but not yet for effects or eq changes. If need something unique for a whole middle section of a take you could just cut that section out, paste it to its own track and twist it up there. Having so many tracks takes some getting used to but I love it!

It works the exact same way if you are using the line drawing method. Just like you draw the line to boost or cut volume, you can also boost or cut aux sends or turn off or turn on inserts.
