You can go either way. How many simulateous inputs do you need?

I've run across a lot of issues in the past when trying to run multiple interfaces, especially without a master clock. The issues that spring up a lot of times are timing and track alignment. All audio recording interfaces have their own, internal recording timing clocks. Any 2 interfaces, even of the same make and model can (and usually will) have small differences in those clocks. So, trying to use them simultaneously and record with them will typically result in tracks that do not line up properly. It can be anything from small comb filtering to full-on, slap-back style delay.

As such, I personally recommend getting an interface that supports more ins/outs. This will sab=ve on potential headaches.

Unfortunately, your current interface probably does not support external clocking. Plus, dedicated, external clocks are VERY expensive. Another option would be ADAT or AES/EBU. If your interface supported connecting a dedicated ADAT lightpipe or BNC, or AES/EBU interface up...or if it supported actually BEING an ADAT/AES interface, you could then go that route. But, I wouldn't worry about any of that as I don't believe that interface does either.

Good luck!

You'd have to sync them via word clock. I think that is a given.

I'm glad you caught that. I did not! That could cause big problems!

Well, you don't have to use an Apogee Big Ben. I have some nice Mytek converters that I use as my master clock. They do okay. I could use my Delta 1010 clocks if I wanted to.

Good point! I've heard very good things about the Myteks. I've never used one. In fact, your Delta 1010 might just be a great interface for him to move up to. I've used the Delta series several years ago and it was a really great, solid interface with great drivers. Stackable too! A good friend of mine has been using a 1010 for over 4 years now with great results. I still have a 44 in a box in my mic locker. I've thought of selling it, but it would make a great IF for a backup DAW or a limited setup for my son. He is almost 14 and he is really getting in to this. Hell, he can even run my board and CS and make patches for me, arm and monitor tracks, etc and I never have to leave the ISO booth!

Sorry for getting OT. I don't want to give bad or wrong info. I just believe that, given the OP's current interface, there isnt much choice but to move to another IF since it appears to not really be expandable. The only digital I/O on it appears to be a single S/PDIF channel, with no mention of and clocking or ADAT lightpipe/BNC capabilities.
