Unhappy No sound recognized in Ableton!

Hey i'm pretty new to recording and i just got an M-Audio Fast Track Ultra preamp and i'm having the HARDEST time trying to get Ableton to recognize any sound comming from the preamp. I have a Korg R3 Synth/Vocoder hooked up to the preamp with a chord. I plugged the chord in the headphone slot of the Korg and in one of the input slots in the back of the preamp, hooked the USB up to the computer, turned everything on, and installed everything. Ableton is recognizing the preamp but when i play on the korg the sound meters don't move. I've selected ASIO as my driver type and M-Audio USB 2.0 ASIO for the audio device. The weird thing is I can plug in a mic into the front of the preamp and Ableton will recognize sound comming through the mic but when I try to play the korg through the input slots in the back of the preamp i get nothing. I'm pretty sure all the sound is turned up on the inputs so i'm wondering if i have something plugged in the wrong spot? I've tried like every slot on the Korg and the preamp and havn't had any luck. Any ideas? Thanks

Don't use the headphone out, use the main out of the korg.

Usually, you can use the front or back inputs separately but not together and there is usually a switch or push-button to jump between the front and back inputs. So it's one or the other.

Yeah wow haha that was the problem I didn't switch the button to play the back inputs. There's one more problem i'm having though. Occasionally as i play i'll hear a loud clicking noise that gets recorded along with the stuff i'm recording. Could that be the chord that i'm using or the preamp?

That's hard to analyze without hearing it but drop-outs seems possible if you're overtaxing the resources of your computer. Certainly a faulty connection is possible as well. Live allows you to monitor CPU usage. Check that. If you're pushing it up around 60-70, you need to find a way to lower the CPU usage.

I'm just getting started--trying to record voice/trumpet through mic--and am having a similar problem. The system is Shure SM58 to M-Audio Fast Track Pro to USB to Ableton Live Lite 7. The m-audio fast track pro clearly picks up the mic and it comes through on the headphones out of the front of the mixer. But the Ableton Live Lite 7 doesn't recognize any sound no matter what I do with the input settings. I tried Audacity just to see if a different recording software would see the mic inputs but nada. Any ideas?

Is the track armed? Are you recording to an audio track? Make sure your audio track says EXT IN.

Yes, I'm armed, recording to audio, and on Ext In. The soundmeter doesn't register anything even on the test tone.

Do you have the correct drivers set up in Preferences? I assume you're using a ASIO driver? Is the audio track active? Is it routed to the master track? Is the input set to 1/2, 1, or 2? Does your routing match that? Occasionally I've had the sound go away for no good reason. When that happens, I exit and reboot and that fixes it.
