Default Assigning Presets Live

Is there a starting point in setting up my Axiom 25 in Live 7 If I understand correctly there are some designated presets for Live on the Axiom. Right?

Thanks

What kind of presets are you looking for? This thing is just a MIDI controller, right?

What presets are you looking for? The Axiom 25 should be USB plug-n-play into Live but you still have to assign which midi controls do what. If you are looking for instrument presets, those will be in Live's file browser. If you can be more specific about what your needs are, perhaps I can. I do not use my Axiom as a midi-function controller only as a means to input midi notes into Live's midi instruments.

Well since I posted last I figured out that to get the drum pads to work with Live's Impulse I had to activate all groups A, B, and C. Then I set the Preset to 18 not 17 like I read. I then dragged a rocker to a midi track and they worked that kind of confused me. Can you tell me why M-Audio says to put on Preset 17? Then I went into preferences midi sync tab and selected a control surface input 1 and clicked on dump. If I read correctly this will set up the knobs, and scene and clip function buttons. Correct?

Thanks

Since I do not use the controls on my Axiom, I can only be of limited help here but I can tell you I had a similar frustrating experience setting up the drum pads. It was all trial and error and I eventually got them to work though I can't remember exactly how. I think the control ability of the Axiom is overrated and to honest, would only be helpful if you are working in the session view and want use Live "live" so to speak. In the arrangement view, the mouse and keyboard controls are faster IMO.

Your Axiom 25 should show up when you click on control surface input 1. Are you seeing that? If not, perhaps Live is not 'seeing' the Axiom properly.

Good luck!

Yes I agree there isn't much to guide you throught setting the controls. So if I understand you correctly you just use your Axiom to play like a keybord/synth by using the sounds available to you in Live? How do you record these sounds in you songs? Is it one single track? Any other advise you can offer would be great.

Thanks

I'm not sure what version you have. The basic version of Live has some strings and pianos, keys, and synths but nothing terribly cool. I think the piano samples are good but if you want great synths you might want consider finding some vst plugins or adding Analog (the Ableton synth add-on which is cool).

Anyway, you are going to record midi-notes to a midi track, not an audio track, and you can insert any device into that track to 'play' your notes. So you could load a piano (drag and drop into the track) and play your part. Later, if you want something different, just delete the piano and drag your instrument of choice to that track and your midi notes will now be a synth or an orchestra.

Use the "hot-swap" feature often.

Cailyn
I'm not authorized to use Analog because I have Ableton Lite I do plan to upgrade to full version but need load up the piggy bank. You mentioned a few posts back about vst plugins. Can you recommend any for Live to use that are reasonable?

Thanks
