Default Ableton Live 8 Tempo Changes?

Im new to ableton and recording and general so I dont know much. Is there any way you can have a tempo change mid song? When I change the tempo to record the slower/faster part it changes the length of my already recorded audio files so everything is out of wack.

You can change tempo in Live by expanding the master track and editing the song tempo which is one of the options when you click on MIXER in the box directly below the word master. If you've enabled warp, your clips should stay the same length. If you are trying to adjust tempo at the top, in the scrub area, you are actually changing the time signature. It is best to work out and map your tempo changes before you start recording.

Okay lets say I've recorded a guitar riff at 185 bpm and the tempo of the next verse slows down to 160 bpm. How would I go about recording the next riff at a different tempo without changing the tempo of the first guitar riff? If you could be as detailed as possible that would be great, Im a newbie.

Set your bpm to 185 in the upper left OR open the the song tempo on the master track and pull the automation line (red line) to 185. Generally, if you do
it this way, it may be a slight fraction above or below 185, that little difference isn't important. Record your riff. Go back to the master track and open song tempo again. Exactly where the riff ends, double click on the red line. A little to the right, double click again setting up two breakpoints. Pull the second breakpoint down until the tempo is very close to 160 and pull that point under the first. Right there, the tempo will change from 185 to 160.
