I have never tried recording this way. Generally, the ASIO drivers are designed to work with some sort of USB or firewire interface. When you go to Preferences>Audio and select ASIO, what options appear in the box below labeled Audio Device?

The only one that appears is ASIO4ALL v2. I realise that the this way to record is daft but i can't afford a preamp at the minute and i used to record through sonar this way. Didn't sound brilliant but didn't sound exactly awful! If it's any help i'm using Vista(lame) and my brother runs the exact same setup as me on his pc that has XP(good old dependable XP!) using the same drivers. I really want Ableton to work cause it looks so shiny compared to SONAR 6 (also lame) and also doesn't break down every five minutes with the bugs coming out it's rear end!

Try adjusting the Driver Error Compensation in Preferences>Audio. Reduce the output buffers as low as possible to maintain your signal.

Found out how to fix it! I had to turn off MS Wavetable midi thing and change the output to 3/4. Works no problem! Thanks for your help anyway!

Well from off my head you go to preferneces,go to midi and see where it says ms wavetable synth? Turn that to off and then go to your output config and it should say 3/4 output. The go the master bus and change the output to 3/4. I think it was something wierd with my computer audio card where the midi drivers were filling up two output options.
