Default Ableton Live 7 ERROR - stops in the middle of session!

hi, i'm new here... i have this problem with Live 7, i have been using ableton 5 for quite some time now (about 2-3 years) and just recently upgraded to live 7.

i used live5 on my laptop, now i'm using live7 on a desktop (quadcore, 1gb ram). i have an m-audio fast track pro audio interface which i use in the desktop as my default sound card.

my problem is this: when ever i am editing something in live7, after a while the session is suddenly stopped/hangs and an error box appears saying "The selected audio clock source 0 does not seem to deliver a usable clock signal to the audio device M-Audio USB ASIO. The audio engine has therefore been temporarily deactivated...." after which a box would display "a serious error has occurred, Live will have to shutdown." then after shutting down live7, i couldn't open it again. when i check the processes tab in the windows task manager, live7 is still there and cannot be stopped.

what causes this error?

this is my current connection set up:

M-audio Fast Track Pro connected via USB to PC
Peavey PV6 mixer outs connected to audio inputs of Fast Track Pro
Microphone goes to inputs of PV6
Monitors connected to outputs of Fast Track Pro...

is my connections affecting LIVE7?

hope someone could enlighten me about this...

thanks!

caio

My first reaction is that you do not have enough RAM to run Live. 1gb is probably not enough somewhat dependent upon what operating system you are using. It might be enough if you are running a seriously stripped down version of XP but not Vista. When Live is running, RAM usage runs anywhere between 700mb to 1.4gb of RAM usage depending on vsts, effects, and so on. I have found that Live runs best in my environment on 3gb of RAM. Running too high a buffer setting also chews up RAM. I have also found that when Live crashes, you have to reboot to reload the program (at least in XP).

thanks for the reply! i forgot to mention i am using XP Home edition... i also have sonar4 and reason4 and don't seem to have a problem with them... my buffer rarely reaches 30% usage... and my projects are just 3 tracks max... mostly midi since i am still just breaking into the desktop (i have recently transferred from my laptop and have not even added my old files there)...

oh, and the RAM is at 2.6gb...

i also noticed that i can't assign some of my USB devices/controllers (a Behringer BCF2000) with ableton... i am thinking... could it be that my USB connections to the motherboard is the one malfunctioning? some power interruptions on the fast track might be causing the problem....

what do you think?

I have not encountered this problem before but the clock time issue seems critical to the program hanging. I would contact Ableton support on this problem. Might take a couple of days but I would hope you get the answer you need. Sorry I couldn't help further.
