Default Welcome To Collaborations!

If you are looking for find other musicians to play on your recordings, this is the place!

Collaborations is totally new to me, so I have no idea if any rules are necessary. So I'll guess I'll stick with my usual philosophy. When in doubt, there are no rules!

So knock yourselves out!

Brandon

It'd be good to establish a preferred format for music files - personally, I prefer 16-bit 44.1 khz beatmapped wavs for use in ACID (or even better, ACID zips - but I realise that not everyone uses ACID!).

For sharing, I tend to use 4Shared, but obviously, everyone has their favoured share sites.

I'll get something together soon, as I have tons of unfinished pieces that happen to have nice riffs, just to play around with and see how this works - and what sort of things can make it work well.

Back soon...

Hey Brandon

I think this is a fatastic idea. I would love to collaborate with other musicians on line. The possibilities are endless. I am sure you are waiting to see how this develops before putting any kind of structure around it - but personally I wouldn't know where to start.
There are a whole raft of technical and musical issues that you and the guys will know better than me.

I think that Bludgeoining Spawn's idea about some file sharing standards is great. It might be that there are a few different platform options. Could you host a sharing service? I know that this would be costly and time consuming, however, I for one would be happy to pay a subscription fee for something like that. I have a friend that has a studio and we have discussed setting up an online studio as a business in the past.

Perhaps encouraging a few projects to spearhead it might work - to get through the issues and find a format that works. For my part - I am probably too slow because I am still grappling with the home recording technicalites. However - when I get it together - I am absoloutley up for collaborations. Best of luck with this to you and all the pioneers on the site - and sincere thanks for kicking this off. It's the way to go - and somebody has to do it.

Cheers

Joe

This is a great idea! I have almost no time on my hands for recording just now, but I hope to come back to this thread when I do. I do home recording on cubase le (and sometimes guitar tracks pro 3, but mostly cubase). I don't know how many cubasers are out there...

I also don't know which recording programs play nice with one another. Someone with that knowledge making a post would probably be helpful.

Great idea. So many times I've wished for drums and ability to use them...Or piano...

As for format, I find that we can all use individual tracks in wav format. Each track can be imported back and forth as long as the result of the work within the DAW is output in wav format, (lossless). All of the original data is retained and all PC users can manage wav in every audio manipulator out there. I am flipping back and forth with Cubase and MAgix and simply export individual tracks in wav and re import them into whatever DAW Iam using at the time. Timing would be the only issue I can find. But that is resolved within each application. As for Acid. I gave up on that long ago as I found it was really only good for loops. Very good at loops, but we record in a "Live " style even in the studio. I think this approach will help us greatly when we play out, and it reduces the post production work as well as retaining all of the original music. Trying to record one part and then trying to lay down another track(s) alongside is an artform I find. Still very difficult and kudos to those who can synchronze this.

Hey!!!
This sounds like a cool idea. I'm looking for a Female singer, with a smokey kind of voice sound, (Sheryl Crow, Bonnie Raitt kinda sound) for a tune I've been working on. Not sure how this all would work. The tune is being constructed in Logic Pro.

I would be open to it. I play acoustic guitar, some electric (easy or sleazy, take your pick), bass, I'm trying to focus on developing piano chops lately so I'll take on any part. I'm not Billy Joel or Elton John on the keys, but those guys have four first names between the two of them and most people probably missed that joke.

Hi Whiskey Jack, Thanks for your reply and willingness to collaborate musically.

Right now I'm in need a specific kind of Female voice just to finish up one of my songs.
Smokey sound, edgy R&B ok too. A Female voice, more of an Alto range, who is able to really wail on a very poignant, sad but underneath very angry lyric, base on deception and deceit.

Do you have any of your music posted so I can take a listen and keep in mind for future projects?

Again, Thanks for you wanting to help. And good luck with the keyboard chops!
