Thumbs down Thank you KHR! (Warning: Ear Fatigue)

For reminding me of what a fool I am! Do not dismiss the importance of good monitoring people! Ack! After hours of working on what I thought would be the best guitar tone for my songs, I realised it was all in vain when I referenced it on my home stereo. Thought that "mic'ing the amp in the closet" would be the way to get the right tone out of my amp and still be able to hear what's comin out of the speakers (I work in a small room for a studio. Mistake #1). Bottom line is, I need bass traps.

Anyhow, long sob story short, this is a cry out for help to the pros here, to see if they think the guitar tracks are salvageable. There is no bass recorded yet. Am I wrong to assume that the low bass frequencies can "un-thin" my guitars?

Maybe I'm trying to convince myself out of redoing all 7 songs.

Here's 2 of them.

P.S. Could maybe track another guitar to thicken the rhythm guitars? Right now there's 3 tracks (L/R and centre) The centre track is a different guitar with different settings to thicken the main passages.

These songs are not mixed yet. I guess, technically they're in the wrong forum.

Sounds good to me but I'm no pro. This is my first posting so forgive if it's screwed up. Love to here with bass. As for your problem maybe a multiband compressor to tame low freqs.

If you do indeed have 2 tracks duplicating the same guitar performance, I assume they were recorded with 2 different mics... If that is the case - a suggestion that may help (forgive me if you've already tried this): flip the phase on one of the duplicated tracks - It's amazing how often this can make a difference.

Thanks for your reply guys!

Actually the L and R (hard panned) tracks were with the same guitar and same setup, just 2 different performances. The middle track (mono centered) is a different guitar and setup. The levels are low enough with the middle guitar that all it does is help thicken (boost) the low mids. This all referring only to the rhythm guitar(s) btw.

Gonna attempt adding a quick bass line just to see what those freq's do to the sound. *sigh* Might not be till this weekend. Damn fence is taking forever to go up. Stupid household chores. :P lol.

Thanks moderators, for moving this post to the appropriate forum.

+1 fhumble fhingaz. I think this guitar tone is useable. I would need to hear it with bass to see how. It is basically good. I always use as different a setup as possible to get thicker guitars. I like the sound.

I'm not so sure that's it's just your guitars that sound thin. The whole mix is leaning that way.
It's very salvagable though so I wouldn't go through the extream of retracking the well played material that you have there.
At least you have full songs, some guys spend a lifetime in chasing that killer tone and never actually build anything with it.

Sounds pretty thick to me. Almost too thick. Not so much for the solo type parts, but they don't sound thin in a bad way.
