Sounds pretty good but you ask us not to bash the sound. Isnt that exactly why you put it here,to get feedback on the sound of yr pre's.

I don’t hear anything wrong with the vocals.

But to be honest, there’s something wrong with the overall sound. It lacks presence.
In the lack of a better explanation, the instrumental reminds me the sound of some home keyboards with auto arrangements or built in sequencers.

I’m only referring to the instrumental, because I find it hard to judge the sound of the vocals with that background. I mean, the vocals sound clear to my ears, but it would be easier to “judge” on a more quiet background.

When you use a fake string section, you really have to EQ the low mid peaks and the shreik freqs (2.5k-5k) out to cut down on the hallmarks that brand it as artificial.

BTW, as about the strongest weak in the recording chain, distortion-wise, we're not able to listen to the preamp, as such. Mostly listening to the microphone, which we don't know anything about.

Kind of like the Elton John thing happening on the vocal. With a little work, you could put together "I Guess That's They Call It the Blues" and it would go down a storm on karaoke night. Just joshing, I wish I could sing anything that anyone would want recorded.

From what I can hear, the vocal doesn't seem to be colored by the preamp.
