This is my first "proper" mix, as in, this is the first time I actually messed with the eq settings and really tried to separate out the parts. ![]() Please, destroy my mix and let me know how to make it better! |

Every thing does have it's place which is cool. Is there something you want help with specifically? It is a great 1st mix. The guitars sound like they are in a small room and far away. Not fussy on the snare sound. Most elements feel too ambient. Cheers

Thanks for the reply! I'm probably should have been more specific in the first post, I want to try and get a good "wall" of guitars sound, but I can't seem to manage to do that. Right now, there are only two guitar tracks, when I move the lead to the center and add a second guitar track, everything sounds so muddy, do you think that could be an EQ issue or just bad tracking on my part? I can post the clip with the multiple tracks if that would making helping me easier. |

Sure post the the whole thing. The wall of guitar sound is very tough to achieve on a budget and make it clear. Good mic pre's will let everything sit more easily in a mix and eqing with good eq will enhance this effect. A lot can be done without this but it is a bit of a hard hill to climb IMO.

Ok. So I tracked the guitars and tried my best to make a "wall" of guitars sound, its not exactly where I want it, but I think with the experience I have it is fairly decent. I also reduced the reverb on the main vocals to try and make it sound a little less ambient. Criticism is always welcome! ![]() Also, one side note, I did this in just a few spare minutes I have, so the last riff's tracks aren't as tight as they could be. |

The guitars sound like they are in a tunnel. Did you use a pod for this. It sounds like sim but the tunnel effect is usually bad micing. It doesn't sound up front and in your face. The wall of sound is sometimes done with the less is more theory. Lolgreg is a master at getting heavy tones out of budget equipment. I would PM him, read his posts and listen to his posts. First things first find out why your guitars sound like they are in a tunnel and solve this. Guitar never sounds huge in a tunnel.

Thanks for the info! I'll definitely check out Lolgreg's posts and whatnot. My recording chain is: Line 6 Spider III -> SM-57 -> ART Tube Preamp -> Line 6 Toneport UX1 -> DAW.

Ah this explains it. The good news is that you can fix the tunnel effect. I bet your 57 was to close to the cone and not the outer edge of the speaker. Try moving the mic closer to the outer edge of the speaker straight on. This will help a lot. Cheers
