Default 5 Minute metal epic. Most vocal tracks missing, has everything else.

Alright, so I am running this attempt using Superior Drummer 2.0 for Drums, Bass guitars and some of the synths are sampled as well (while other synths are recorded with my keyboard). Guitars were recorded with my PODxt for a preamp, but I am using a Presonus Firepod as my interface.

I also ran a simulated "master" using Ozone 4, which I maybe shouldn't have done for this purpose, but oh well..

I think there are a lot of obvious flaws, but besides levels some of them are not so obvious for me on how to fix them.

Take a listen and let me know what you think

The only thing I'm noticing right off hand with out being to critical is the intro and the ending has clicks and pops as does the middle break part...Maybe thats coming from the sampled synth. Music wise, just my opinion, all the double kick going on all over the place is kinda distracting from what the guitars are doing in some places..the guitar playing is awesome but rather then being complimented by the drums it seems the two are competing..

What an EPIC track! This sounds huge. What a great job programing the drums. The vocals at the end sounded like my dad singing though.Ya need a real singer for this monster.
Overall great job!

Well most of the singing in the track will be quite aggressive (dont know if you listen to scandinavian folk metal at all?), the ending is supposed to be like that for the purpose of contrast... haha there is just nothing to contrast it with right now with no other vocals. I think the final product will play out just fine.

awaken1: Thanks, I'll take a closer look at those clicks and pops, I never really noticed them there before.

Musically I'd like to keep the kicks played as they are... but perhaps the sense of competition could be eliminated by EQing the guitars a little differently?

Scandinavian folk metal is my favorite kind of folk metal.German folk metal is too creamy and the Canadian folk metal is too salty.

Haha well.. this is coming straight out of Canada, so maybe I'll avoid the salt if I can... I don't think the over all sound will be pure folk metal, but the influence i think will be quite obvious.

I envisioned an M Shadows type vocal, I love melodic metal.

Great work!

Well the vocals aren't in yet because I keep changing up the lyrics, not any other reason really. I'm also still having some trouble getting a good vocal sound, maybe its just my voice haha.

I'm not REALLY a one man band, I have band who I've been playing my music live with for about three years, but its been the sort of thing where i just write everything and the other dudes learn it and add their style to it... but my drummer has been super busy as his other band got a signed to a german record label, and they've been touring a lot, also my guitar player has been recording an album with the band he writes for. So in the midst of everyone doing their own thing I just want to have an album written and recorded, so when it comes down to touring and playing more live gigs, it will be quick for everyone to learn everything.

Shadowblade (Writing New Album) on MySpace Music - Free Streaming MP3s, Pictures & Music Videos will take you to our myspace if you're interested. I have one newer demo I recorded just recently up there, the rest of the songs are from an EP we did about two years ago (with a couple old members actually...), more Power metal than anything. You can tell from this track that my writing has come a long way. This will be thrown up there when its done with for now.
