Default VicDiesel - The Huron Carol

An arrangement of an old standard.

The Huron Carol, (or "'Twas in the Moon of Wintertime") is a Canadian Christmas hymn (Canada's oldest Christmas song), written in 1643 by Jean de Brébeuf, a Jesuit missionary at Sainte-Marie among the Hurons in Canada. Brébeuf wrote the lyrics in the native language of the Huron/Wendat people; the song's original Huron title is "Jesous Ahatonhia" ("Jesus, he is born"). The song's melody is a traditional French folk song, "Une Jeune Pucelle" ("A Young Maid").

I woke up really early Xmas morning and played this through my stereo while puttering around making coffee. There was snow outside and the smell of woodsmoke in the air. I really appreciate music that sounds good early in the morning.
Good work.
Highest marks.

The song is really cool. I can't recall hearing it, but I really like it.

Great job!

I like this one. I don't believe I've heard the tune before, but it is a very evocative and elegant christmassy track you've made there. Nice recording and arrangement, too. Perhaps ironically, given how old you say it is, for me it would sit nicely alongside something off the Fleet Foxes album (one of the records of this year, IMO). Top marks from me!
