warning: hobbyist opinion. Take with grain of salt.

the reverb on the vocals paints me a picture that you are outside. I have no idea why. But I kept thinking, hey man, go inside. That's where the fire is.

The bass drum/whatever that low is, it was really thumping my subwoofer but in my headphones it evens it out and isn't so far out front. But it's still pretty prevalent. If that's your intent then great but if it wasn't, just so you know.

comment on the song itself: what is the word? interesting? intriguing? insightful? all of those and more wrapped up in some super-word. the lyrics are touching.

hi there, firstly cheers for your comments....
(i'm the other half of iddod, i wrote it, played it and engineered it)
the sub on the kick is intentional, it's intended to enhance the heartbeat element of the drums and act as a reminder of mortality... i try monitor on as many systems as possible to avoid to make sure that my idea of throb isn't another's idea of buzz, Crimbo was checked on a wide range of speakers, including 2 professional spec studio monitoring systems at Leeds College of Music, all sounded well on them so i was happy with the mix... hope it's not too over the top on yours and spoils it for you... i DO appreciate the feedback and will keep a closer eye on subs in future, especially if more people mention similar things
the vocals too are intended to sound kinda stark, i normally double track my vocals to smooth the blemishes but i figured that having them sounding sort of alone and vunerable would compliment the feel of the track... if the subject "could" go inside, i'm sure he wouldn't need to be sat in the street singing the song :-)

now just have to figure out how to move this thread into the christmas competition forum area :-)

Oh it did not by any means spoil the song for me. Not in the slightest. It certainly does add to the effect and I'll reiterate how wonderful I think the song is. Now that you have mentioned the heartbeat I can see that very clearly and it is spot on.

My two word description for your song crimbo: shockingly poignant.

thank you very much for your marvelous comments, feel free to rate the song if you like, this thread has been now been moved into the christmas competition area, where we'd originally intended it to be :-)

when we put the song on our website last christmas we put a note up asking people to donate to homeless or animal charities of their choice, instead of paying for the track... quite a few people contacted us to say they had done, so even though we'll stand no chance of winning the competition (there's some good songs been submitted), we're happy with the fact that the song has done us proud :-)
