I'm certainly no electronica aficionado, so take this with a grain of salt if you will... It doesn't sound like a song yet... a good intro for a track, yes, but a song, no... I can envision a kind of mechanical song evolution, with this part being the section where the different disparate elements are emerging & combining from a primordial aural "soup". I think the next step would be to gradually shape these elements into a coherent rhythmic / melodic sequence that sees this mechanical monster start to walk... & then to dance! I don't know if you get what the hell I'm on about, but I've tried to explain it in a visual way as best I can...

Like many things in life that seem easy, there are underlying subtleties that are not immediately evident. The blues in conception is the one of easiest of music styles, some variation on 12 bars, E-A-B and you're done. A convincing sound and feel is another matter that far fewer people are able to capture. So it is with this. Mechanically, it seems correct, but it didn't strike me as a fully coherent or realized musical thought. You open with a theme but don't develop it and the flute sounded random, not connected with the opening theme.

Thanks to everyone who participated. This was a scratchpad project file I found on my hard drive. I play-enabled all the tracks at once and thought, "Wow, that was hideous". Then I thought, "This is the worst thing ever", which was its working title for about 15 minutes. Then I thought that I'd certainly heard worse noise that people had constructed in sincerity and had solicited outside opinions for. What would they say about this mess? So I copied and pasted some sections for length and reassigned some of the percussion sounds for maximum unpleasantness/bizarreness, tossed some plug-ins at it and posted it. You were all great in the way you tried to help this hopeless turd. Reputation brownie points for everyone! Thanks again.

I think it's awesome. The pause instead of the downbeat is really nice. Add LPF over some of the high noises and remove that ugly WROOP! sound (I think its dblue glitch effect?) Anyway, add a kick now and then, perhaps a bit of bass, and mix down the more piercing sounds and you are on a winner, seriously. |
