Hello, Things you need to work on: Your vocals. They are very weak, you sound like your straining and your not always in key. The structure of the song, it drags. Try something simple to start with like: Intro, Chorus, Verse, Bridge, Chorus, Verse, Verse, Bridge, Chorus, Chorus. And you need to make the chorus really stand out and be really catchy, with this type of song. Your sounds lacks depth, this could be the software your using though. Your volumes need sorting, perhaps it's the flanging effect on your beats, try a limiter and or some compression. Which leads me to - That strange bumping sound is your effect on the beats I think, turn off the effect and see if it still happens. Hope you don't mind me being honest with you. i certainly don't mind you being honest, that's what i want. i'm not straining; as a matter of fact, i'm to a point of being so rerstrained i'm barely making noise. the reason it sounds strained, i think, is that the mic i have can't handle my voice, so i end up pulling back so much that i'm practically whispering. the structure of the song as it stands is much simpler than what you propose; verse, prechorus, chorus, verse, prechorus, chorus, bridge, chorus, outro... what exactly do you mean by "lacks depth"...if you mean what i think you mean, this is due to the difference between what it sounds like in gb vs exporting it and converting to mp3. the mp3 version sounds so compressed; there's a lot lost from one to the next. there is already a limiter and compressor on the track, especially the percussion. honestly, this didn't change much. there is no effect on the sample that makes the bumping sound. not even reverb. (adding stuff made it worse...)

Much nicer. I'd bring up the vocals a little more still. I don't feel that the "knock" is a problem. You could probably notch it out, but it doesn't bug me. The bass is still too hot. If played in a club, the equipment will take care of that and over-compensating to give it that vibe will make it hard to take in that venue - not to mention on any other playback systems. Pulling that back wilkl also buy you a lot of headroom to make it louder and "more competitive". To my ears, all the other engineering is very much in place.

Sorry, you know what, it's not your structure, it's the fact that you have no key changes and only 1 note/chord playing for the most part behind your vocals, and so your vocal progression sounds strained. Towards the end your vocals are definitely off key. Try changing key or at least the chords and notes more. What mic you got? By more depth I guess simply put, it sounds like you need something else in the mid ranges, you could try dropping your chord down an octave. Last edited by fature; 04-03-2009 at 03:53 PM. |

hmmm... pending new version. i have been working on this song off and on for a looooong time, which is why i don't want to give up on it. it even has a remix. i am going to work on both today, and i will repost both later today or tomorrow on a new thread. i am milking this thing for all its worth before it goes away. "act now, supplies are limited!!!" thank you both for your input.

how'd you record the vocals? I'm really not a fan of the sound of the flute. It's a neat melody, but I feel like it may be a little too much cheese.... hopefully you won't take offense! |
