Default first timer...

Hi there, I'm richard, and I'm new to this site and these forums. I'm an electropop musician based in York, UK. Like all of us (some of us) I'm learning the trade of recording and mixing my own music, and I feel I've come on a long way since I started doing this five years ago. Hopefully I'll continue to learn, and from this site and pick up new tips and make new friends (awww). So hello!

Anyway. I'm recording a 4-track demo/EP thingy. This is the first track off it. I'd like you to point out where the mix is suffering. I've taken as far as I can with this, and personally, I think it's sounding good. But I'd like a second opinion - don't hold back! What could I do with sorting out? Anything obviously wrong with the mix of the track?

Cheers,

RB

Very nice. @ 1:11 and again @ 2:58 there is a brash 16th note synth that I firmly believe could stand to come down (volume-wise) in the mix just a bit.

Other than that the arpeggios are very cool. Vox sem straight forward enough and the ambience is soothing.

Great job.

Sounds good but I think i hear a crackling in the mix and I can't tell where its coming from it almost sounds like a plugging might be clipping..It is very subtle though but it is there..Your voice is quite good but it needs a bit more presence and ****th in the mix (compression maybe).Last on what sounds like the chorus you have those sort of stabs that sound a bit to rigid, wondering if they could be randomized in the quantization feel in order to get a sort of attack fluctuation..Anyways great effort...

Edit
Saw a post about the W A R M sound a bit to late.I guess to each its own.

thanks for the suggestions - I've brightened up the mix, and have made room for the vocals which have a bit more presence now. Also reduced the volume of the bass synth part which was dominating things slightly - just needed to make some room to make it breath!

Funny how you try to 'fill out' your mixes, but all it takes is to give everything a bit more space to make it a bigger sound as opposed to a messy sound. I clearly have much to learn!

Cheers.

Some where your levels are peaking causing digital distortion. Check that master fader. Also like Marino said as far as a plug in. Little less on the compressor.

Liked it alot - dedecting a bit of MGMT in there. I can't comment on the mix at the moment but good job!
