Actually you are right Freddy G. at first listen the Apex 460 can be impressive however i did notice when i started using it more for recording that it took a lot more tweaking to try and make it fit in a mix in which with the right mic there should hardly be any EQing etc. made and it should just almost naturally fit into a mix..I think i have better results with my Shure SM58, 56s and RE-15s...Thanks for your reply.

just made a spectacular female vocal recording with a shure SM57. The impedance of the preamp makes all the difference to this mic though

What preamp? Yeah, female vocals can be done with a 57, but with a good combination of the female vocalist, preamp, and performance.

I tried a 57 and 58 on a female vocalist a few months ago. Didn't work? 57/58's fault? Not really. The female's vocals were just "too pure" for a dynamic. The SM7b didn't work either, so I ended up going with the Royer MA-200.

Ahh, good job! I saw that in your list, but now explains why there was no brand name attached to it.

Damn, 8 channel tube preamp with variable impedance. You wouldn't happen to make one with lightpipe output would you?
