Default Re: Your Favorite Vocal Mics?

Which is the best microphone for recording the female voice.
Is is very high and almost Janice Joplin type of voice but doing Patsy Kline type songs.

Which is my next microphone?

AKG C414 XLS gave an excellent rendition.
AKG Solidtube made the vocal sound very thin. Even the proximity did not change it much.
AKG c414 XL2 too bright. (Best for Male vocals)
The Neumann TLM-103 was very similar to the c414 XLS.
I have even tried an EV RE27.
The Rode NTK sounded the best.

I am looking at Neumann M149 or M147.
How about Neumann U87
Any ribbon microphones acceptable?

What do you think?

My monitors are Tannoy Reveal 6D, through Presonus FP-10 x 3 (24 tks), Allen Heath 16-3 Mix Wizard, Cubase 4, Mac G5 Quad core,
Preamps, ART mpa, Aphex 207d.

I'm not sure why, but I always assumed those were used for the vintage appearance, usually seen in music videos.

Beta58 destroys all IMO. A little more than the SM58, with all the associated reliability and general smoothness, but it handles much more gain before feedback than the SM. Live you just use it, and in studio, you use it with a pop shield.

Just look at any concert footage. More than likely you will see the round mic with the blue ring. I like to use the same things in studio, that I do live, whenever possible.

Stock I find this mic to have a hyped boom and sizzle in a lo-fi kind of way. At first listen it can be impressive but then you realize it's not very friendly when you try to fit it in a mix.

Once this mod is done to the mic it shines!

Microphone Modding

And they are both exactly the same BTW, Apex is just rebranded...dirty marketing trick!
