Hello guys!

Free plugins? For me i'm not usually used to manage free plugins in my mixes.
coz I always trust Waves plugin when using Pro Tools and Steinberg Nuendo and Cubase SX on my mix, both in RTAS and VST. My recent mastering plugin is Izotope Ozone its good! but would recommend Kjaerhus plugins for the free plugins and also FreeG for gain

You may want to drop by and have a glance in my website for tips. Its for all aspiring Audio Engineers in the industry. ( www.lougarcia.8m.com )

NOTE 2:

HI Guys!

For Pro Tools LE RTAS plugins for free, try to search for Nomad factory, They have at least 3 free plugins for RTAS. and just in case you want to use VST plugins for RTAS... That is possible. by VST to RTAS adapter you must try it!
Your Pro Tools DAW will be so complete!. I have some VST plugins that you can use just e-mail me at lougarcia@mailsent.net and try also visiting my website is at www.lougarcia.8m.com.

Kjaerhus plugins can be associated with pro tools thru VST to RTAS adapter
Try It.

Just in case you want a free Pro Tools software. I can recommend Pro Tools 5
but it runs with Windows 98. Just try to have a good and high specification in your PC including Memory Card and Hardisk to run this software. Its available at Digidesign.com

www. Lougarcia.8m.com ( I have weblink to Digidesign just visit this site and click on Pro Tools. Thanks

Here's a very interesting free plugin: SIR from Christian Knufinke

Download it at: http://www.knufinke.de/sir/index_en.html

"SIR" is an Impulse-Response processor - you point it to an impulse file (WAV containing sound sample of a room, cathedral, hall, whatever), and it analyzes the acoustic signature of that room and re-creates its natural reverb in your mix. I tried it with the included "cathedral" sample, many other impulses are downloadable. Easy to use, totally cool!

It seems there is a plethora of well liked plug ins. This is good. Can anyone advise what I might try to get that radio ready vocal sound? It seems like current music is using less and less coloring but the vocals seem to fit in. Maybe there is a lot of activity to get great sounds that don't sound processed, but really are. Can anyone advise what miking techniques, equipment, and plug ins I should use? I can't spend a fortune here so freeware is good. Let me know. Thanks...

This is an impossible question to answer because if you sit down and really listen, you won't find two vocals that sound the same on a given album, much less by different artists.

Distorted vocals are great for something, stupid for others.
Vocals with slapback delay are great for some things, horrendous on others.
You get the idea.

The idea is to forget about the "radio ready" idea. This has nothing to do with it. In fact, it pulls you down the wrong road that says that you are competing with some kind of standard. This is not the case.

Instead, focus on making the song the best it can. If the song needs reverb, delay, chorus, distortion, AM Radio effect, etc...do it. If the song works, the recording will work.

Cool Re: Your Favorite Free Plugins?

The Massey plug-ins are super cool for Pro Tools (RTAS) users. Check out www.masseyplugins.com. The plugs run in demo mode indefinitely, they just don't save presets unless purchased. The L2007 Limiter gives my waves L2 a run for it's money.

Cheers
Eric

I'm rather fond of some of the Antress Modern Plug-ins, especially the VS-ME (1173 emulation), which I've used very effectively on vocals, and even on bass - it mashes without sounding squished, and gives a nice presence. I also like the Modern Booster (SSL EQ emulation), which doesn't sound like the SSL I remember but is very useful on guitars.

These started out pretty raw, but the latest revisions of most of them are very usable.
