Maybe someday I'll be able to justify spending real money on better plugins (...and better gear ...and acoustic room treatments ...and...), but so far I'm using mostly free plugins, and the ones that came with Nuendo. Thanks, all...

I like the MDA series. Sometimes I'll fire up the d-esser and use it to reduce 'crackle' on an imperfect guitar track. The MDA VSTs don't have any kind of fancy interface, but I like the 'quick and dirty' approach. The Killer Gate+ is great for 'chopping up' guitar and bass lines. The Classic Auto Filter is very cool. Like 'most everyone else,' I like all of the Classic stuff. The Modern series are really subtle. Here's a question: On VSTs which employ an old-fashioned 'vu meter,' is it ok to go into the 'red' a bit, just as it was in the analog days? I like the JB Broadcast, and the Barricade (brick wall) limiter. By now, there are so many of these free VSTs on my system that it is going to take years to sort through them. I'm happy as a clam. ![]() I'm probably in that 'overeffects' stage, employing a lot of VSTs to really 'warp' the sounds of the individual tracks. Then, when mixed all together, it's called, "Disco Disaster." Anyway, thanks for the thread. By the way if anyone is aware of Killer Gate+, and knows off the top of their head of some other similar 'dance music' VSTs, by all means please post them here. |

I'm with MrBlitz on most stuff. The Classic series is excelent, MDA is astonishing (kept the entire Bin even though I only use it's pianos). That said, I didn't know about the De Esser and I have a major problem with a crackly guitar solo so I'll give it a whirl. Also use JB BArricade, some of the Modern stuff a lot. It's all a question of trying stuff, being brave enough to say NO and binning stuff you don't like the sound of. But the vast majority of my stuff uses freeware VSTS. If anyone's lookng for the MDA stuff, be aware that you need to go through Sourceforge or the like. Smartelectronix has gone, taken over (I think I heard) by Steinberg. |
