I use the Fish Fillets the most out of my free plugins, i use the floorfish a lot on some of my live recorded tracks for gating drums etc.

I've been looking around for plugins with mojo and I just discovered some great color-plugins by a guy called Bootsy. So far I've tried the TesslaSE, Density and BootEQ mkII and they rock IMHO. I've not had time to try the other Bootsy plugins much but they seem really cool as well.

You can find them here: Downloads Variety Of Sound

The TesslaSE is great for adding some transformer-type color. It's helped me to get some stuff to sound quite a bit larger than life. I know it's getting great reviews from guys who can afford just about anything they wanna use.

Density is a very nice compressor with some of the same type of color-thing going on as the TesslaSE.

The BootEQ mkII is a really nice color EQ where you can switch between modern and vintage modes and have some simulated tube coloration.

Brandon said somewhere in one of his blog-posts how a certain plugin (I think it was an Antress one) made a client go "wow" and how that type of reaction actually gets you more business in the end. These had the same effect in my studio.

At the very least these are some nice colors to add to your arsenal, and that's always a good thing.

What am I looking for?????

I want to detune audio 6-string to mimic a bass line. Seems like that is an option in audio editors, but is there a on the fly VST ? Or how is that handled : ) I'm not even remembering the terms, today.

A pitch shifter is what you want. Cubase has one built in but I don't like it that much. This one has worked fine for my needs (although I haven't tried what you wanna do):

Why not get a bass?
Alternatively, when you want to record your bassline, put (much) heavier strings (maybe even light bass strings?) on the guitar and tune it down an octave.
Just a couple of ideas...

I'd love to get a bass. Haven't had one for 40 years. I have performed and recorded in the old days with the Epiphone 135 detuned to cover bass and rhythm.

My solution now is to do it electronically, though I DO want a bass for the attack and harmonics.

The pitch shift works, but there should be one VST specifically for this octave shift with trimmings. Using pitch shift, I have to run it through another "bass" modeler. I just want pick action not found in MIDI.

I bot a audio synth VST to try my idea - not great, but it can fill a bass hole OK ??
test audio guitar to bass conversion

As most know, all plugins are free if you want them.
