I don't know Sonar at all, but it may be a good idea to reinstall them. Maybe try re-downloading as well? They most certainly don't do that in Cubase (which I use).

I reloaded the Fish plugins and SPITFISH appears to be working now.

My fave at the mo is the Musicrow preamp emulator, which you can add to pretty much everything, and given you use it correctly, it can give a pleasant smoothness and musicality to the mix

Is there a guide somewhere for people who have never used plug-ins before, to find out what they will work with, how to 'plug them in' and use them etc.?

WAVES, get you free demos. try vintage v series. great eq. vintage sound. ssl 4000 a lot different bright cutting, waves , waves. waves. too many to list .vox, vocal vox, guitar vox. adds real great sounds to guitars. renasance reverb thats the thing.all the waves . just too many to list. r bass comp. plug
in. maxi bass,etc L3-16 ,masters bundle/ all of them.........
