I think it was mentioned way back, but I agree with you; used judiciously for some songs it works great.

I also really like JB Ferox, especially on my drum-bus.

I didn't read through the whole thread, but I did a quick search to see if some of the ones I wanted to mention were here, but it doesn't look like it, so here goes:

There are a number of really nice EQ's availible. I use each of these with my other EQ plugins pretty often. They all seem to have their own "thing" going on, which works for different things.

Leftover Lasagne Pushtec (a sort of Pultec-vibe - Pushtec/Pultec geddit!? - that does "something" I like very much): http://www.kvraudio.com/developer_ch...PushTec1.2.zip
Noname EQ (a nice clean EQ that works well and sounds good): http://www.savioursofsoul.de/Christian/VST/NonameEQ.zip
Paris EQ (also a nice EQ that does what it says on the box very well): http://www.hometracked.com/bin/ParisEQ11.zip

If you're looking for a good limiter, try the George Yohng W1 Limiter. It's a clone of the Waves L1 Limiter (done by tweaking his design rather than stealing source code, I believe) and is really very cool: yohng.com' :: W1 Limiter

The digitalfishphones have been mentioned, but I'd just like to second that they sound absolutely fabulous. Many folks say they're willing to pay good money for these plugins, in fact I've heard of guys with UAD cards that say these plugins give some of those a run for their money. I especially love Endorphin, Blockfish (so good on soooooo many things) and the Spitfish De-esser.

As far as instruments go I really like these:

MiniMogue (Minimoog sim): http://glenstegner.com/MinimogueVA.zip
This bundle (Hammond B3, Wurlitzer, Fender Rhodes, Leslie Speaker sim, etc.):GSi - Soundware for musicians

Good resources. Thanks. I'm going to try the W1.

Does anyone have any tips on using SpitFish. I can't seem to get it to work. The "knobs" just go round-and-round with no effect; no indication (i.e., white LED's showing up) of anything happening. I must be doing something wrong.

Unfortunately I don't have any advice regarding your difficuties with getting Spitfish to work, but here are some tips on how to use it: I found the presets to be a good starting point and to tweak from there. Use the Listen-funtion to fine-tune the frequency for each particular situation.

OH and BTW, another nice VSTi - a great mellotron plugin: TWEAKBENCH - free VST plugins for windows. free VST instruments and free VST effects

The Digital Fish Phones compressor (blockfish) is great , especially the "Studio Bass Guitar" preset.

+1 on the Massey plugins for ProTools.
The L2007 Limiter is on my every mix and I love the Tape Delay.

Though I did eventually purchase them.. they were that good.

So far I'm liking the W1 Limiter, especially since I don't have Waves.

I just wish I could get those digital fish plugins to work. Oh well, I got plenty of plugins to keep me busy.

It's a real pity, they are all absolutely great. I don't think I could do without them now. What recording software are you using?

Sonar Producer 8 (just upgraded, but had the same problem in 7).

Do the "knobs" go round and round and round with no affect? I can try to re-install them.
