Default You want something to mix? Mix this!

I've got a song to share with Y'all.
The artist is Jay Scar, the song is called Methadone, and its on the album Burst.
(Should be on iTunes soon, it's on Napster now.)

I produced, engineered, and performed on this album. It took about 18 months to complete whenever we had the chance to work on it.

The music is acoustic based pop/rock, singer songwriter, kinda grunge influenced.

There are no MIDI tracks in this. All tracks have been consolidated so you can just drop them in to bar 1 of your DAW of choice and start mixing.

All samples have been consolidated as well, with the exception of some reversed cymbal swells and reversed bass note. (these were mix decisions, not really part of the recording, the drum loop was too but is essential to the sound of this song now IMO)

BPM is 118, beat detective has already been done on the drums.
Files are 16 bit 44.1kHz, multi-mono wav. The folder has been compressed with RAR compression, you'll need WinRAR to extract on a pc. (a tool you should have), Macs should be able to extract without additional software.

Files are uploading now.

When you're done your mix, post it as a reply.

[edit: oops I missed rendering the strings]

This is my final mix before mastering.
This is my take on the song.
Frame drum, tambourine and other percussion were added in the mix stage.

Hey magno! Good job!

I was starting to think that this thread was invisible to the rest of the forum.

Before I say what I don't like about your mix, what do YOU like about your mix. What was your strategy, how much time did you spend on it and did you learn anything?

Audio Geek,

So I finally gets to the studio and Im like oh yeah Im gonna mix down this track... So I unrar it and then start putting into cubase and letting them play one by one... Its a great song... I really enjoyed this experience. Its interesting working on something out of my comfort zone but I must say I felt incredibly comfortable... Thank God for my Dual monitor setup... I would have given up with out them. (mixer looks great spread accross 44in... 29audio tracks 6 Group buses 5Fx Channels... )

Ok So I have a rough mix for you to listen to... Im not done... This is just volume leveling, a little comp and some reverb... SSL Channel & Api 560 on the Main vocals, SSL Channel & Ap1 550b on the doubles... eq'd the kick sample... panned Tambourines hard left and hard right... Panned the drums across as If I were the drummer... URS 1975 Compressor on drum mix. Eq'd the acoustic guitar... Still got some work to do and I wanna do some fader automation to give it more of a dramatic feel...

I havent checked to see how well it translates but now Im back at work Ill just check on the internal computer speaker... lol talk about lofi!!!

Also I didnt know how you felt about adding echo and things like that... I might play with some effects tonight when I sit back down with it...

Its very strange to hear different 'interpretations' of a song I know inside and out.

Anthony did you lose the 2 snare tracks? did not hear snare at all. The balances of instruments sounds very strange to me. Listen to your mix at a distance, its just tamb and vocals. Keep at it!

I've already mixed it to my (and Jay's) satisfaction. You can try to match my mix if you want.
