I really wish I didn't have to sleep. That would be ideal.
I tend to do my best mixing at 3am.
Unfortunatley, my girlfriend won't tolerate band shaking the house at 4am.
Brandon
which time of day do you like record at? i know for me i do my best work at sometime around midnight up till about 4:30 in the morning, what are your thoughts about it as it relates to the music?

I have no choice... I work 9-5 (pretty much). However, as a writer, I've done my best stuff late evening - 11pm-3am-ish...

I write at night before I go to bed. That way, I get whatever I've been thinking about all day on paper before I lose it.

I am definitely a "night writer"(pardon the david hasselhoff related pun). I work during the day and play at night, although with a roomate, I can do my recording instrumentally at night, but have to record vocals during the day.

it would seem that i am not alone i guess! i do not really remember the last time i recorded my own stuff during the day...

The night time is good for me to brainstorm and come up with ideas. But I get more finished during the day.
Most things get done in the 24hours before the deadline...........
I find the period from 10pm - 2am is very productive..
4am - 9am = mistakes
My brain shuts down between 4:30 and 5:30 AM. Other than that, it's really more about state of mind than time of day.
To some degree.Other than that, it's really more about state of mind than time of day.
However, there are legitmate issues with certain times of the day. For example, the phone doesn't seam to ring nearly as much when working at 2am. People don't beat on the door as much. You don't get as many email alerts at 2am either.
Brandon
Well, turn your ringer off and close your email program!
I find that getting up super early in the morning tends to have the same feeling as staying up super late.? You're tired, it's dark outside, and the rest of the world is alseep.
I swore I was a night person, but then I started getting up super early and eventually crashing around 9PM.? I became a morning person, while giving up caffeine at the same time!? I tend to think anyone can switch from going to bed at 4:30 to getting up at 4:30 in the morning just by going to bed early and avoiding mood altering substances.
Now that we have a 2-month old, I go to bed late, get up early, and sleep like crap, so I'm back on caffeine.
I talked with someone many years ago about (experience) extrasensory perception, telepathy and such being alot more active late at night. He said, "Well, that stands to reason since there is alot less interference in the atmosphere late at night". This is true in many ways, and it all has to do with solar energy and the way it drives everything on the planet. Daytime is churning with the effects of solar enegy, it's all solar energy but beyond the scope of the topic to discuss that. Night time is more ethereal, less interference in the atmosphere and thus better for creative thinking, clearer perception, etcetera. There can be some contradictions here if you live in a big city with a huge power grid since there is an electromagnetic hum everywhere from the power consumption, transformers, industrial electrical machinery, lighting, air conditioners, etc, etc. Some people can perceive that stuff.
I lived in very remote areas of the mountains for years and there is nothing clearer as far as generated interference, than being in a very remote area. IT IS GREAT!!!!
I am a night time person, often awake until 9:00 or 10:00 am even though I TRY to get on day schedules so I can tend to regular business, I always drift back to all night time hours.
I've specualted that the solution for me might be to move to the opposite side of the planet so I can be awake during daytime and get some SUN, although there isn't much sun this time of year near Seattle.
Night time in the mountains is beautiful, clear skies LOTS of stars visible, I've watched comets from out there- really beautiful. I hate living in the cities.

I'm going to go ahead and challenge everyone to use evidence and scientific data to toss out this statment:telepathy
"Telepathy is just as equal of a hoax in the day as it is in the night time".
Brandon,
I knew you were going to say that ;D

I'm just saying that you can prove or disprove stuff like that because the whole definition of ESP is that it defies science.

Speaking of night time hours, yesterday I woke up at 2:30 pm and today I slept until 7:30 pm and missed several key ebay auctions I had planned to bid on. (studio reference amplifier) There can be some disadvantages to 'working' the second and 3rd shifts.

Science seeks to explain observed phenomena and it may take literally centuries before science is able to adequately explain a phenomenon.? ESP is without any question, observed phenomena, and if science cannot prove or disprove it to a skeptical mind is irrelevent.? There is research that tends to support ESP.? It is a matter of what a person is willing to accept as evidence.?
I know it exists because I have used it consistantly for decades, first discovering the ability when I was 15 years old. I don't have to prove it to anyone and don't care if anyone believes it or not. I have documented experiences, in writing that prove the fact.? Again I could not care l;ess if any one believes in it or doesn't, it is not worth my time to try to prove it to anyone, I really do not care what they believe.
If all you accept is scientific study then you might be considered as? pretty lacking in higher knowlege since recorded scientific studies are extremely? limited and even what they do seek to explain they are very lucky or fortunate in well designed research just to reveal a small part of the phenomena in question.? As I implied, the cosmos exists and science only seeks to understand and explain small bits and pieces of it.?
I have been reading scientific research abstracts for about 30 years.? I have certainly read well? over a thousand in that period of time, perhaps many? more, I? didn't count-? everything from LASER research to extensive medical research and even military weapons research- ie examining insects as weapons delivery 'vehicles' they actually called them 'vehicles' LOL.?
In order for science to do research someone has to pay for it so in the absense of lots of money numerous things do not get researched.? Lots of research is low quality and poorly designed and doesn't reveal much.? At this point science does not even know HOW to research extrasensory perception because they barely have a clue as to what it actually is.? Actually, researchers? are now offering explanations that have to do with QUANTUM THEORY' which has been used to explain extrasensory phenomena in identicsal twins- observed and measured by the way.? I know what it is, in my own terms of explanation.?
There are very well documented experiences involving ESP, premonitions, telepathy etc.,? as well as experiments that support it's existence.? You can accept that as 'evidence' or 'proof' or not.? It doesn't matter to me.? If you are waiting for 'conclusive scientific proof'? you may have to wait another 100 - 200 years or so. Scientific research rarely if ever provides anything called 'proof', ? what it really does is provide insight from which to pose new questions about a particular pursuit of knowlege or explanation for a phenomena.? Just because there is no peer reviewed and published scientific study that supposedly 'proves' something certainly has no bearing on whether or not the phenemena exists or does not exist, or the truth or fallacy of any such thing.
The number ONE rule of a good? Scientist is to keep a very open mind and never presume anything.?
There ARE ALOT of charlatains, fakes and phoneys about who have given ESP this highly questionable and suspect status.? The best psychics never get involved in that crap and 95% of the time never let anyone know they even have the ability.? ?
Anyhow, back to recording studio and music related stuff for me.? I didn't want to get involved in a talk about ESP.? Anyone else can have the last word here, I am getting on to other stuff

phangeaux,
Being a double science major / pre-med student I typically like to answer questions such as this with scholarly journal citations, experimental data, etc. This time, I'm throwing all of that out and resorting to the third-grade argument. I'm sure that is all you could comprehend anyway.
You are a complete moron. If you were standing right here in front of me I would cave your face in. I'm seriously that annoyed by your lack of knowledge and pure willingness to cloud your own mind with the cosmic waste that is your thoughts.
Please become a bit more mindful of the puke you are spreading around. It's people like you who cause Oprah's book club, valentine's day, Uri Gellar, faith healers, and the rest of the intellectual wasteland that is all too prevalant in our society today.
I hope you die. No really, I hope you die.
By the way mr. psychic...why don't you take up James Randi's offer and get yourself $1 million dollars by simply demonstrating you are not full of it. I'm sure your recordings would benefit greatly and you could even offer up the reward to charity...as I'm sure you wouldn't do it for the money. Those starving kids would really like you to demonstrate your talents so that they can eat.
You may also consider a critical thinking class. You may learn that the argument, "Oh, I don't have to provide evidence to anyone else but myself" is not the greatest idea when entering debate mode.
It's a shame evolutoin has been tampered with so much as to allow a cellular pile of contamination such as yourself to exist.
If you don't care what we believe and aren't interested in discussing it further, you really shouldn't post a rant like this. Science is basically just a way of explaining things in a logical fashion that other people can understand, scrutinize, and repeat. If you won't explain your experience of ESP to us in a way that allows us to experience it for ourselves, how can you expect us to believe you?
All scientists should admit that there are things in the universe we don't understand. If we understood everything, we wouldn't need scientists. Science is slow because we're still learning. If you want to simply believe something, believe it, but don't expect science to take your word for it.
BTW, without scientists, you wouldn't have any of that recording gear, much less a computer or internet to spread your crappy arguments and scientist-bashing.
this is turning into one heated game of catch!!! 8)

I'm sorry man, but that is quite possibly the worst post I havbe ever read. I hate it when people take ad hominem attacks against people they disagree with. Refute ESP with solid scientific evidence (remember, absence of evidence is not evidence of absence). That's my challenge to you.Originally Posted by lukesample

I'm not formally trained in scientific junk, but I was under the impression that you can't prove something doesn't exist. Of course, science has never "proved" anything.Refute ESP with solid scientific evidence
I'm also familiar with the Dr. James Randy challenge. If you can repeat your "phenomenon" in a controlled setting, he'll give you $1,000,00 in cash. He's had this challenge for years, from the way I understand it. While proving nothing, it does seam highly unlikely that no one on the planet has been able to snag the $1,000,000. I would think that the incentive is there.
