Default Yet another monitoring question.

Hello All,
I need to get some new monitors for my job and I wanted to ask you all what is the best bang for the buck. I produce comedy bits (i.e. fake commercials, parodies, and such) and have been given a $1000 limit.

I have a pair of M-Audio BX-5's at home and they're fine for that, but I need to get some serious speakers for work. I know $1000 might not be that much in monitor money, but it's all I've been given.

Our current crappy monitors are passive, so we have power amps. Not sure if that'll save me money (over active ones).

Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Well, I've got to ask you a question. What is "not serious" about the M-Audios? In other words, what would you change about them?

The ONLY thing that matters with studio monitors is the ability for mixes done on them to translate to other systems.

This is complicated by the room, which makes a drastic difference on the sound of the studio monitors. It's further complicated by human preference. I paid $1300 or so my Mackie HR 824s and I really don't like them. Other guys on here have them and love them better than speakers that cost much, much more.
