What makes a song entertaining to you????

I know that this is a broad topic, but it is a reality songwriters face every day. Hopefully you have been entertained before, and if so, what was it that did it for you???

I always said that the best songs gave me goosebumps. That's why I do this. I think that just comes from hitting the right notes at the right time.

Every once in a while I will hear a song that just talks to me........you know the kind of song that when you hear it for the first time it's like it's coming from you brain and not in through your ears......you connect on a different level......that entertains me.

Oh a a couple of the other conments above hit home......goosebumps...and hitting the right notes at the right time.....

To me, it's all about the emotion behind a song, and fitting lyrics and music to that emotion. "Mary Jane's Last Dance" by Tom Petty is the epitome of that. If you listen to it, you'll get what I mean.

While not all of my favorite songs are this way, I'd say that 98% of my favorite music alllows me to sing along to it. The greatest songs force me to sing along. If I had to rate one single quality, for entertaining me, then I would have to say "the song forces me to sing along".
